We stay at the Anchor Inn every year because it is cheap, it has a bar, and the owner is easy to get along with. To be frank, it aint no Taj Mahal but weve tried the other options in Murdo and the Anchor is the best value for pheasant hunters. Good enough beds, good parking, and all the rooms are "down and out" (meaning ground level and outside entrance).
I picked the Anchor Inn to stay at mostly because on the surface, all the hotels in Murdo seemed similar. I was too tired to care that it cost twice as much as the other non-chain hotels in town. The room was overall clean, but somewhat dingy. A small TV was bolted to the wall with basic cable channels. There was no internet, no coffee maker, no fridge/microwave, and no continental breakfast. I was looking forward to spreading my toiletries out in the bathroom on the "generous counter tops," but instead, I had to balance my toothbrush on the edge of the sink. The bathroom is downtown-Chicago tiny. For the money, I should have stayed elsewhere. Fortunately wireless internet is available from three hotels close enough to penetrate the walls of the Anchor so I could at least write this review.
